This option is suitable for retirees with a retirement income of at least $1,000 per month, which can come from a pension in their home country or disability income. It also extends to sponsoring spouses and children.
To qualify, you need to demonstrate a monthly income of at least $2,500 through various means. Options include depositing $60,000 USD in a bank in Costa Rica or abroad, certifying your overseas income, or opening a trust.
The minimum investment amount for residency in Costa Rica has recently been reduced to $150,000 USD. This investment can be in a business or assets like real estate.
The digital nomad visa allows individuals with a monthly income of $3,000 or $4,000 for a family to live and work in Costa Rica.
Foreign nationals who marry a Costa Rican can apply for residency. After two years of marriage and residing in Costa Rica, citizenship becomes an option.
Foreign nationals with children born in Costa Rica are eligible for residency.
This category is for those who want to work for themselves or open a business in Costa Rica. There is no minimum financial requirement; you only need to have a business. Options include Residency for Skilled Workers, requiring a demonstration of your skill, and residency for business owners such as hotel or restaurant owners.

Two ways of obtaining citizenship are the following:
- Naturalization by Residence: This pathway requires a minimum of 5 years of continuous residence in Costa Rica.
- Naturalization by Marriage: If you’re married to a Costa Rican citizen, you can apply for naturalization after being married for 2 years and residing in the country for at least 2 years.
